It also distresses me to see the same authors on the ballot every single year or whenever they produce a book... There is a clear bias to those authors who attend the convention and the books they write are predominantly science fiction with allot of tecno-babble and mundane paper thin soap characters.. Where is all the great fantasy produced over the last year(and no Lois doesn't count, those books are average fantasy at best) Please let's start getting more voters and less dull nominees...

My the topic "Hugos" I have greater problem myself with some of the other catagories. I have a hard time figuring out what new work artist have done. I don't want to base my 2003 vote on work done in 1999 or any other year. Could a page of links or listings based on Hugo catagory be set up to help find the qualified works for that year.

How about a topic for people looking to resell memberships?

Who the hell is Lois, you Geek?

To answer the question, I assume that "Lois" is Lois McMaster Bujold, whose novel "The Paladin of Souls" was nominated in the best novel category. I would like to suggest that Hugo awards be discussed in the Hugo award thread, so that people see the discussion.

Massachusetts travel questions & tips Questions about the facilities
Keith Stokes Thursday, June 17, 2004
Kieth, There is a Travel around Boston blog. There is a Travel to Boston blog. With a regular bbs, things would be easier to find.

I second Keith Stokes's suggestion about MA travel questions and tips. I'm currently working on my itinerary and would appreciate a topic along this line that is focussed on those attending Noreascon 4. Perhaps, what do we give up at the convention to go sightseeing?

How will the Republican convention impact travel from New York City to Boston. August 30th to September 2. Narp site has shutdowns. narp@narprail.org

I would like to suggest a topic on gaming. It would make things much easier for anyone that wants to play a game (espeically CCGs and tabletop war sims) to connect with others attending the convention who would like to play.

There is no place to ask a question about the facility or the convention itself. Keith (who would like to know if the wireless access in the Concorse area mentioned in the last PR is free)
Keith Stokes Friday, August 13, 2004
I am told that there will be wireless network available that should be available pretty much throughout the Hynes convention center. It will be free to convention members. I have been given some caveats: we have no idea how many people will be using it, so there's no guarantee of bandwidth, and this is considered a nice-to-have but not critical function, so there is no guarantee of uptime. There are some excellent volunteers who will be working on it, but the key word is "volunteers", who will not have a lot of budget and who will have other responsibilities. I'll be bringing my wireless card, and with any luck I'll be able to blog and monitor this discussion board from the fan-table areas (where I will be spending much of the con). Though I may also be paying for a connection in the hotel room just to be sure I can get online.

Thanks Alex. In that case I will probably use dialup as as backup. Keith

Where to party? Does anyone know the best bars and/or at which rooms the best parties will be held? (It's the topic that matters!) Stacey Cochran
Stacey Cochran Friday, August 20, 2004
How about a site where we can meet with other fans of "guilty pleasures" such as JD Robb's Eve Dallas series.

Re parties: The parties will be listed in the convention newsletter at the con. That will be the authoritative source of information about parties. Also I have a strong suspicion that Filthy Pierre's party board will be visible somewhere near the info desk or voodoo board. I am helping throw different parties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, so if you're party-hopping, say hi. :)

As nobody has responded to the "gamers wanted" thread, I think I'm going to go back to waiting for someone to second the request before I create a new thread. :)

How about info on shopping in Boston for those of us coming from out of town (or in my case, out of the US). The labour day sales are great but we never know where to find the shops

Re: Where to Party? Thanks, Alex.
Stacey Cochran Friday, August 27, 2004
I would have liked to see Stacey's party topic. It is nice to have an idea what parties are planned and when, helps to point out what we shouldn't miss and who will be throwing them. It would be particularly nice to know what (if any) parties will be on Wednesday.

I'm looking for a print of something I saw in the art show. It was an outdoor night scene with cats on the ground, and a catlike spaceship overhead, I think the title was "The Return".
